Eco friendly skin care or ecocentric body care is a natural progression within the cosmetic manufacturing industry. Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the last 10 years then you would have heard of the term "eco friendly". With global warming and carbon footprints being big concerns, governments and scientists are encouraging us to be more environmentally aware. How we sort out our trash, to how we travel to work all have environmental issues and we as a global community need to take responsibility for our actions.

since ancient times people have used natural products to help the aging process. The Romans used plant extracts and essential oils when bathing, and the Egyptian queen Cleopatra is said to have bathed daily in sour milk. However by the turn of the twentieth century the beauty industry had become big business, and with the onset of mechanisation, vast quantities of beauty products were being manufactured. Companies were developing synthetic man made chemicals  to not only improve saleability, but also to aid product shelf life, and these products were routinely being tested on animals.

By the 1970's people became more aware of what they were putting on their skin and the cosmetics industry had to clean up its act.  Companies such as the Body Shop were formed in 1976 by Anita Roddick and the slogan "our body shop products are not tested on animals! never have been, never will be!" became its war cry. More and more companies started to sell natural organic skin care products and it became big business again. However this was not enough. The environmentalist movement was gathering pace and they were concerned with deeper issues such as, sustainable ingredients, helping to support product farmers in poorer countries, and disposable or bio-degradable packaging. In general the overall impact that mass production has on the environment and the planet. This is how eco friendly skin care was born.

One of the pioneers of eco friendly skin care is a company called Pangea Organics. Their founder Joshua Onysko had the foresight to be totally upfront and honest about his products, from the natural ingredients contained within,  to the effects his products have on every stage of their life-cycle. Working within a small company his products are not only beneficial to us they are truly beneficial to the planet.

Even if you are not in the least bit environmentally friendly , we still all like to feel and smell good when we come out of the shower or bath. With totally natural products which include everything from soaps, to shower gels, to facial cleansers, and natural ingredients which include Egyptian basil and mint, Canadian pine and white sage to Pyranese lavender and cardomon, you can feel invigorated and ready to start the day, knowing that you have done your bit to save the planet.
