Eco friendly skin care or ecocentric body care is a natural progression within the cosmetic manufacturing industry. Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the last 10 years then you would have heard of the term "eco friendly". With global warming and carbon footprints being big concerns, governments and scientists are encouraging us to be more environmentally aware. Companies were developing synthetic man made chemicals to not only improve saleability, but also to aid product shelf life, and these products were routinely being tested on animals.
By the 1970's people became more aware of what they were putting on their skin and the cosmetics industry had to clean up its act. Companies such as the Body Shop were formed in 1976 by Anita Roddick and the slogan "our body shop products are not tested on animals! never have been, never will be!" became its war cry. More and more companies started to sell natural organic skin care products and it became big business again. However this was not enough. The environmentalist movement was gathering pace and they were concerned with deeper issues such as, sustainable ingredients, helping to support product farmers in poorer countries, and disposable or bio-degradable packaging. In general the overall impact that mass production has on the environment and the planet. This is how eco friendly skin care was born.
