Is Thailand Eco-friendly?
I know that some hotels and tours are now Eco-friendly but I can't seem to find anything about the not Eco-friendly side of Thailand. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but I would grateful for some help.
The reason you haven't heard about Thailand's eco-friendly side is because it does not exist. Although motor vehicle bureaus have "smog checks", those with cars or trucks that spew out thick black fumes will never get cited. Bangkok is one of the smoggiest cities in the world, and anyone with a window seat can see the brown cloud as they descend into Suvarnabhumi.
Non-biodegradable garbage lines streets and highways, and Thai people hold no qualms against tossing garbage out of their cars, or onto the beaches. While places like Phuket strive to keep clean beaches for the tourists, other resorts like Pattaya have beaches covered in garbage that rarely gets removed. Thais do recycle, but not for any ecological reasons - they do it purely for pecuniary reasons.
